Spring is my favourite time of year - the lambs are bouncing, the trees are budding, the days are growing warmer, and even the rain (when it invariably falls) seems gentle and kind by comparison to the harshness of winter. So here's a selection of some beautiful items which sum up this lovely time of year for me.Splash of Rain - Silky Baby alpaca laceweight yarn by Abstract Cat CraftsRain Cloud Necklace by Killer CupcakeSinging in the Rain Necklace by Boho BoutiqueAzure Splash... Inspired by a suggestion by Vicky Harrison of stars & scars on the Facebook page, this week's post is all about those adorable creatures of the feline persuasion. Yes, after the success of our recent post, It's a Dog's Life, we decided it was time for cats to have their say! And boy, are there are a lot of cat lovers out there on Folksy - there's plenty of scope for future feline finds :)Loveable Beasts Kitten Limited Edition Book Print by InkmeupPuuurrfect Kitty Doorstop by EC Designs UKI Love Cats Key Holder by Dach CraftsSeven Sunshine Kittens Magnets by KikichooA Tin Thing by Emma's Wolf'Cat-friend' white hand printed cushion by BonbooFlower Cat by Mel Croft IllustrationMama Cat & Mini Kitty - Blue by Pussy Galore Sock Cats and KittensMoscow Stray - 10x8" Mounted Print by Clemmy Photography

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the launch of the new decimalisation currency system in the UK. Gone were shillings, crowns, farthings, sixpences, and in came the various new coins that we are all familiar with today. So to celebrate this history occasion, we're going to take a stroll through the coffers of Folksy and see what loose change we can shake free :)We start off with the humble sixpence, worth exactly 2.5p in new money.Lucky Charm Bracelet by SP JewelleryAnd then there's the farthing, a much loved coin that gave its name to one of the earliest known bicycles. The Penny Farthing - Bronze Steampunk Rhinestone Bicycle Necklace by Penny MasqueradeThe threepence was generally pronounced 'thruppence', but was also known as the 'thruppenny bit', which became a popular rhyming slang term.Blue Tit by Alison Catchlove SculpturesThe crown was equivalent to five shillings, or 25p in today's money.Freeform Wire Faerie Crown by The Faerie GardenThe florin, or the two shilling bit, derives its name from the city of Florence in Italy.Florence Sock Bunny by Widget and FriendsThe Royal Mint worked overtime to produce the replacement coins under the new system...Mint Cupcake Flower Pot by Fabulous Coconut...and there was a massive publicity campaign to tell the public about the change in currency.Get Excited and Change Things Letterpress Print by flowersandfleuronsBut despite all the publicity, it still took people a long time to adjust to the new coins...Counting numbers from 123...till 20 by ialbertBut after a couple of years, people got used to the new coins and now it's hard to imagine life without them. So fingers crossed that we won't have to go through another currency change any time soon - Euro, anyone?!Coin Purse - Pigs Can Fly by EclecticShop
